1266 GARRETT COUNTY. [ART. 12.

1878, ch. 108.

149. Any sheriff or other officer who shall have an execution
6r attachment against the property of any such individual, associ-
ation or corporation, shall exempt from execution a sufficient
amount of property to pay any indebtedness of such individual,
Association or corporation to employees and furnishers of raw
material, and it shall be his duty diligently to enquire whether
the said individual, association or corporation be indebted as
Aforesaid; and if the employees or furnishers of raw material
shall in any way suffer, be prejudiced or injured by refusal to
comply with, or negligence in executing the requirements hereof,
such officer, together with his sureties, shall be held liable for
whatever injury or damage shall be done in the premises.

1878, ch. 157.

150. The governor, by and with the advice and consent of the
senate, shall appoint one mine inspector for the counties of Gar-
rett and Allegany, who shall hold his office for two years from
the date of his appointment.

151. No person shall be eligible to the office of mine inspector
Until he shall have attained the age of thirty-five years, and shall
possess a competent knowledge of all the different systems of
mining and working and properly ventilating coal mines, and the
nature and constituent parts of noxious gases of mines, and of the
various ways of expelling the same from said mines.

152. Before entering upon and discharging the duties of his
office, said inspector of mines shall take an oath to faithfully dis-
charge the same in an impartial manner; and for the faithful
performance thereof, he shall receive a salary of fifteen hundred
dollars per annum, which said salary shall be paid out of the
State's money, by a warrant of the comptroller upon the State
treasurer for the same.

153. It shall be the duty of the said mine inspector to care-
fully examine all mines that may be in operation in the counties
