before the clerk of the circuit court, or before one of his sworn
deputies; each commissioner, before ho acts as such, shall make
oath before the burgess that he will faithfully and honestly, to
the best of .his skill and judgment, exercise the powers given and
discharge the duties required of him as a commissioner of
Woodsboro,' impartially and without favor or resentment to
any one, and without delay.

467. The burgess and commissioners shall meet, from time to
time, as often as occasion may require, upon the business of the
town, and not less than once in every three months; and the bur-
gess shall preside at all meetings, and shall sign all ordinances
passed by them.

allow him such compensation as they may think proper.

expedient for the comfort, health, convenience and prosperity of
the town and its inhabitants; for the prevention or removal of
nuisances; preservation of health, and suppression of vice and
immorality; to prevent the firing of guns or crackers, horse
racing, cock fighting, and all other improper practices, within the
limits of the corporation.
