648 ELECTIONS—REGISTRATION. [ART. 33.

1882, ch. 22, sec. 33.

32. The board of police commissioners for the city of Balti-
more, shall annually appoint some practising member of the bar
of Baltimore city as counsel for said officers of registration in said
city, whose duty it shall be to appear for said officers of registra-
tion and for the clerk of the superior court of Baltimore city, and
against the petitioners, at the hearing of all petitions which may
be made under the provisions of this article against said officers
of registration and the clerk of the superior court of Baltimore
city; such counsel shall advise said officers of registration from
time to time, at their request, in relation to all legal matters
pertaining to the duties of said officers, and for his services shall
receive an annual salary of three hundred dollars, to be paid by
the mayor and city council of Baltimore. In the respective
counties of this State it shall be the duty of the State's attorney
of said respective counties, in the same manner, to advise and
appear for the officers of registration appointed to act in their
respective counties, and for the respective clerks of the respec-
tive circuit courts for their respective counties; and the said
State's attorney shall be paid by the county commissioners of the
several counties, fifty dollars per annum for such services; and
said State's attorneys shall prepare for publication the necessary
notices to be given by the registers, in each and every year, of
the times and places of the sittings of said registers.

33. It shall be the duty of the person or officers having charge
of the vital statistics of any city or county to furnish to the
officer of registration of the several precincts of Baltimore city,
or of the election districts of the several counties, as the case
may be, by the second Monday of May in each year, a report of
the names and the previous residence of all male persons over
the age of twenty-one years who have died since the close of the
October sitting of the preceding year, and to furnish like monthly
report during the months of May, June, July, August and Sep-
tember, and up to the close of the October sitting, to the end
that said names may be promptly stricken from the registration
books.
