place where a ferry is now or shall hereafter be established, without
license from or authority by contract with the county commissioners
or mayor of the city of Baltimore, he shall forfeit ten dollars for

1 56- Every person who shall be licensed, or who shall contract
to keep a public ferry across the Chesapeake bay, shall be obliged
to carry on board each public ferry-boat a good and sufficient anchor
and cable, a small yawl with a good pair of oars, and also hatches
and a substantial pair of oars and setting-poles for the said ferry-
boat, under the penalty of twenty-five dollars for every such neglect,
to be recovered before a justice of the peace.

158- If any person shall wantonly and maliciously cut, injure
or destroy any boat, rope, oar or other tackling or thing used at a
public ferry, he shall be liable to a penalty of twenty dollars for
every offence; but the keeper of every ferry shall so arrange his

creek.

spective counties or city, and if the ferry is between two counties,
or between the said city and a county, then the commissioners of

sioners of a county, shall provide a boat or boats for such ferry

1 6 3. All bonds taken under the provisions of this article, re-
lating to ferries, shall be delivered to the clerk of the Circuit
Court for the county in which given, or the clerk of the Superior
Court of Baltimore City, if given in said city, to be by him re-
corded.
