Maryland, and to repeal all laws inconsistent therewith, enacts
this article under title I. " Supervision, " and title II. " Modes
of securing competent teachers, " respectively arranged into
chap tors and sections; and repeals all the sections of the sev-
eral articles of the code of public general and local laws relating
to schools, inconsistent with the provisions of this act, and all
acts of assembly passed since the adoption of said volumes of
the code relating to schools, inconsistent with the provisions of
this act; and provides that there shall be throughout the state of
Maryland a general system of free public schools, according to
the provisions of this act. It further provides that this act
shall be added to the code of public general laws, under the title
"Public Education, " and repeals all existing laws inconsistent
herewith. Sup. 1868, p. 175.
This act further provides that the same shall take effect
April 1, 18G8, provided, nevertheless, that the schools now in
operation may be continued under existing authorities until
their successors arc duly appointed and qualified.
1870, c. 311, repeals 1868, c. 407, and all the sections of the
several articles of the code of public general laws relating to
schools inconsistent with the provisions of this act; and all
acts of assembly passed since the adoption of said volumes of
the code relating to schools, inconsistent with the provisions of
this act; and re-enacts 1868, c. 407, arranged into chapters and
sections. It further enacts, that there shall be throughout the
state of Maryland a general system of free public schools, ac-
cording to the provisions of this act; and also provides that
this act shall be added to the code of public general laws, under
the title " Public Education, " and repeals all existing laws in-
consistent therewith. Sup. 1870, p. 124.
1872, c. 377, repeals 1870, c. 311, and re-enacts the same
arranged into chapters and sections, and directs that this act
be added to the code of public general laws under the title,
" Public Education, " and repeals all existing laws inconsistent
herewith.
1874, c. 463, repeals the following ss. of act of 1872, c. 377,
and all laws inconsistent therewith; and re-enacts the same
with amendments, and substitutes other sections in lieu of
those repealed:
