80 LAND OFFICE—LIBRARIAN—STATE. [ARTS. 54-55.

ARTICLE LIV.
Land Office.

The act of 1370, c. 215 entitled, an act to appropriate a sum of money for transcrib-
ing, indexing, re-binding records, preserving papers, and for preparing a digest of
the laws and rules of the land office, enacts:

1. That the sum of four thousand dollars be appropriated for the purpose of trans-
cribing, re-binding, indexing records, preserving papers in the chancery and land
office, as required for their preservation, transcribing, re-binding and indexing.

2. That the commissioner of the land office shall be autherized and empowered to
select some competent person to make an abstract of the different decisions that
were made since the creation of the office up to the present time.

3. That the person selected by the commissioner, after making an abstract of all
decisions with reference to the land office, shall prepare rules in accordance there-
with, which, upon being submitted to, examined and approved by the chief judge
of the court of appeals, shall be the law and rules for the government of the land
office.

4. That the abstract, with the rules attached, be placed in the land office, and
shall be the law and rules for the guidance of the commissioner of the land office
and his successors until altered, amended or repealed.

5. That the commissioner of the land office, upon the completion and approval of
the abstract of the decisions and rules of the land office, shall be authorized to pay
to the person whom he may have selected, the sum of five hundred dollars, out of
the sum hereby appropriated, and that the balance, or so much as may be required,
shall be paid for the binding, transcribing, indexing and preserving such records
as the commissioner may, in his judgment, deem necessary for their preservation,
to be re-bound, indexed and transcribed.

SEC. 7. The remaining copies of the laws, journals
and documents shall be subject to the disposition of
the committee appointed by the seventeenth section.
