COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.
1870, c. 222 adds the following sub-sections:

SEC. 87. Sub-Sec. 1. The commissioners of Wash-
ington county, so soon after the passage of this act as
they may deem expedient, and thereafter at their an-
nual meetings, shall appoint a fit person, a resident of
said county, to be county treasurer for the period of
one year, subject to removal by the said commissioners
for neglect of duty or misbehavior in office.

Sub-Sec. 2. The said treasurer, before entering upon
the duties of his office, shall execute a bond to the state
of Maryland, to be approved by said county commis-
sioners, in the penalty of double the amount of tax to
be received by him, conditioned for the true and faith-
ful performance of the duties of the office of treasurer,
which bond shall be recorded in the office of the clerk
of the circuit court for said county, a certified copy
whereof shall be evidence in any court in this state,
and in default of the said treasurer executing said
bond he shall forfeit his office, and the county com-
missioners shall declare the said office vacant, and
shall proceed to fill the same by the appointment of
a suitable person for the remainder of the term for
which he shall have been appointed, and such ap-
pointee shall, before he enters upon the duties of his
office, execute and deliver a bond of the same tenor,
and in like manner as hereinbefore directed.

Sub-Sec. 3. In case of a vacancy in said office of
treasurer in consequence of death, resignation, removal
or disqualification, the county commissioners shall fill
said vacancy as soon thereafter as practicable.

Sub-Sec. 4. The said treasurer shall receive and pay
over to the county commissioners or their order, the
proceeds of all taxes levied in said county, and shall
keep full accounts of all money received by him, and
of all matters relating to the duties of his office, with
all vouchers relating thereto, and shall, whenever the
county commissioners may require him to do so, pre-
