for securing the safety of the property or the lives of
the inhabitants of said town; he shall have power to
summon any of the inhabitants of said town to assist
him when he deems it necessary.

ARTICLE XVIII.

St. Mary's County.

FISH AND TERRAPINS.

123. Only residents may haul seine.
124. Only residents may catch, &c., terra-
pins.
125. Length of seine.
126. Penalty.

129. Proceedings where owner is un-

MANURES.

131. Crops may be pledged for: Hen of

cord: if purchaser dies, claim to be passed
by orphans' court.

135. Rent preferred to pledge.

curity.

FISH AND TERRAPINS.

1870, c. 61 entitled an act for the protection of fish and terrapins in the tributaries
of the Potomac river lying in St. Mary's county, and to regulate the time and
manner of catching and taking fish and terrapins in that portion of the Potomac
river between Cobb Point in Charles county, and Point Lookout in St. Mary's
county, adds the following:

1870, c. 61 S. 1.
Only residents
may haul seine.

SEC. 123. It shall not be lawful for any person or
persons, except bona fide residents of Saint Mary's
county, to haul a seine in any of the tributaries of the
Potomac river, lying in Saint Mary's county.

Ibid s. 2.
Only residents
may catch ter-
rapins.

124. It shall not be lawful for any person or per-
sons, except bona fide residents of Saint Mary's county,
to take or catch terrapins in the waters or tributaries of
the Potomac river, lying in said county.

Length of seine

125. No person or persons shall haul a seine more
than eighty fathoms in length, in that portion of the
Potomac river between Cobb Point, in Charles county,
and Point Lookout, in Saint Mary's county, except
