ART. 16. ] PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY.

of the supervisor to remove the obstructions, and to
have the bridges and culverts re-built or repaired, pro-
vided the cost thereof shall not exceed twenty dollars;
then he shall report the same to the county commis-
sioners, whose duty it shall be immediately to cause
the obstructions to be removed, or such bridge or con-
duit to be re-built or repaired, as the case may be,
either by ordering the supervisor to hire laborers and
teams for the purpose, or by making a contract there-
for with some fit person, and all moneys required to
carry out the provisions of this law, shall be paid out
of the funds of the county, on the order of the com-
missioners, and all bills of costs for hire of persons or
teams, or for other expenses incurred in repairing the
public roads, shall be approved by the county commis-
sioners.

221. The several supervisors shall make general re-
pairs of the roads within their districts, at least twice
in each year, once prior to the fifteenth of May, and
once prior to the fifteenth of September, and the county
commissioners shall fix and regulate, from time to time,

222. The several supervisors shall report semi-annu-
ally, in June and November, to the county commis-
sioners the state of the roads within their districts, and
the expenses by them incurred under this law, the
amount of money paid out by them in constructing
and repairing roads, with the vouchers for the same;
each supervisor shall be entitled to receive, not ex-

ceeding three dollars per day, for each he is actually
employed on the roads, and shall be wholly exempt
during his time of service, from militia duty and from
service on juries.

223. In addition to the proper proportion of the
general road tax levied for ordinary expenses of roads
and bridges within the county, the county commis-
sioners shall have power, in their discretion, upon the
petition of thirty or more land owners within any
