dollars; then he shall report the same to the county
commissioners, whose duty it shall be immediately to
cause the obstructions to be removed, or such bridge or
conduit to be rebuilt or repaired, as the case may be,
either by ordering the supervisor to hire laborers and
teams for the purpose, or by making a contract there-
for with some fit person, and all moneys required to
carry out the provisions of this law shall be paid out
of the funds of the county on the order of the commis-

sioners; and all bills of costs for hire of persons or
teams, or for other expenses incurred in repairing the
public roads, when approved by the county commis-
sioners by endorsement thereon, shall be receivable for
the party to whom due, or his assignees in writing, in
payment of county taxes due by the lawful holders
thereof.

Repairs, when
to be made.

Sub-Sec. 5. The several supervisors shall make gen-
eral repairs of the roads within their district's at least
twice in each year, once prior to the fifteenth of May,
and once prior to the fifteenth of September; and the
county commissioners shall fix and regulate, from time
to time, the prices to be paid by supervisors for the
hire of necessary teams and laborers to execute any
work under this law.

Sub-Sec. 6. The several supervisors shall report semi-
annually, in June and November, to the county com-
missioners, the state of the roads within their districts,
and the expenses by them incurred under this law, the
amount of money paid out by them in constructing
and repairing roads, with the vouchers for the same;
each supervisor shall be entitled to receive an an-

nual salary of not exceeding three dollars per day for
each day he is actually employed on the roads for the

said commissioners, and shall be wholly exempt, during
his time of service, from militia duty and from service
on juries; and moreover, no supervisor shall be allowed
to hire his own carts, teams, or laborers, in his own pri-
vate employment, for any service on said public roads.
