election may be held at any time after ten days notice
thereof shall have been given by the commissioners or
a majority of them.

Vacancies
among com-
missioners.

56. If any vacancy shall occur by the death, resig-
nation, removal or refusal to act of one or more of the
commissioners elected as aforesaid, the remaining com-
missioners or a majority of them, shall elect a proper
person to fill said vacancy.

New election in
case of tie.

57. If at any election held under this article two or
more persons shall receive the same number of votes
for commissioners of said village, the judges of the
said election shall, after having given five days notice
of the time and place, proceed to hold another election
to fill up said board of commissioners, and the person
or persons receiving the highest number of votes at
said election shall, with those previously chosen, if
any, constitute the commissioners of Denton for the
year ending.

58. Every commissioner, before he proceeds to act as
such, shall make oath before some justice of the peace
for Caroline county, that he will diligently and faith-
fully, according to the best of his skill and judgment,
perform the duties of commissioner without favor,
partiality or prejudice, and a certificate of such quali-
fications shall be returned by the said justice to the
commissioners, to be filed and recorded among their
proceedings.

59. The said commissioners shall meet at such place
as they may appoint, within said village, on the second
Monday of every month ensuing their election, and
as much oftener, by adjournment, as they shall deem
necessary.

60. The said commissioners shall, at their first meet-
ing after their election, elect a president of their board,
and appoint a clerk, a bailiff, a treasurer and two asses-
sors of taxes, whose duties and qualifications shall be
as is hereafter prescribed.

61. The president of said board of commissioners
shall preside at all meetings of the commissioners,.
