33. When a battery of artillery belonging to the
national guard is ordered out by the commander-in-
chief, the adjutant general may authorize the commad-
ing officer to provide horses to draw the field pieces
and caisons.

Oaths and
declarations.

34. Every commissioned officer, non-commissioned
officer and private, before he enters upon his duties,
or exercises any command, shall take and subscribe
in such manner and before such person as the com-
mander-in-chief may direct, the following oaths and
declarations :
I, A. B., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will
bear true allegiance to the state of Maryland, and will
support the constitution thereof, so help' me God.
I, A. B., do solemnly swear (or affirm; that I will
faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all
the duties incumbent upon me, according to the best
of my abilities and understanding, agreeable to the
rules and regulations of the constitution and the laws
of the state of Maryland, so help me God.
I, A. B., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will
support the constitution of the United States and the
laws made in pursuance thereof, so help me God.
