|
135. They may regulate by ordinance the market
in said town, appoint an inspector of said market,
assign his duties and allow him a reasonable salary;
and may authorize him, under their control and
direction, to rent out for the benefit of the corpora-
tion, the butcher stalls in, and the benches in and
about said market house. They may also lease the
hall, now known as the Town Hall, for a period, not
at any one time, exceeding fifteen years.

1867, c. 258 amends and re-enacts sections 131, 141 and 143 as follows, and repeals
1864, c. 313 and adds sections:

131. They may levy annually upon the taxable
property of said town, at the said time as other taxes
are levied, a sum not exceeding three hundred dol-
lars, to be expended under their direction in keeping
the fire engine, hose and other apparatus thereto
attached in good repair, and that they may in their
discretion purchase a steam fire-engine and apparatus
for said town; and that such engine and apparatus
when purchased shall be under their direction and
control, and shall have full power over and posses-
sion of the same, and of working the same, and shall
levy taxes upon the taxable property of said town
for such purposes; and that the said mayor and
council may, when it shall by them be deemed expe-
dient and proper, purchase hose for the use of said
fire companies, or any one of them, and levy for the
payment of the same upon the taxable property of
said town.

141. The mayor of said town shall receive an
annual salary of one hundred dollars, and each coun-
cilman shall receive an annual salary of twenty-five
dollars; to be paid out of the funds of the corpora-
tion, and that in addition thereto the said mayor
shall receive the fees of his office.
