said county, which shall hear and determine the
same as in appeals from county commissioners, and
the said commissioners are authorized to levy a spe-
cial tax, not exceeding twenty cents on the one hun-
dred dollars as a street tax to be collected and paid
as other corporation tax of said town.

1867, c. 169 enacts the following: Recites that the records and proceedings of the
commissioners of the town of Rockville, Montgomery county, were carried off and
destroyed during the raid of the confederate forces in this state in July, 1864; and
provides that the acts and proceedings of the commissioners of the town of Rock-
ville, Montgomery county, shall be valid notwithstanding the loss of the records
prior to the date hereof, and the rights and privileges of said corporation shall be
as fully preserved and continued notwithstanding the corporate authorities of said
town may be unable to produce the same in evidence in any legal proceedings.
NOTE —By the net of 1806, c 76 the commissioners of Montgomery county are authorized
to deed n portion of court-house square at Rockville, to Lewis Shots.

80. The county commissioners of Montgomery
county, shall, on the first Thursday after the first
Monday of March, eighteen hundred and sixty-two,
and every two years thereafter, appoint one discreet,
intelligent citizen of each election district of said
county, who shall take charge of the public schools
as herein provided; the said county commissioners
shall give notice of at least two weeks, in all the
newspapers of the county, of said appointment, the
said commissioners of the county, to fill all the
