CLERK OF CIRCUIT COURT.

1865, c. 157 amends section 51 as follows :

49

51. The said clerks shall record all deeds, mort-
gages, bills of sale and other instruments required to
be recorded in a well bound book, which book shall
contain an alphabetical index in the names of all the
parties to such deed, mortgage, bill of sale or other

be required to record or receive for recording any
deed, mortgage, bill of sale or other instrument of
writing, unless the fees for recording the same as
regulated by law shall first be paid by the person
offering the same for record.

CLERK OF SUPERIOR COURT OF BALTIMORE CITY.

1864, c. 385 adds the following section, to take place after section 70:

71. The clerk of the superior court of Baltimore
city is hereby authorized and required to prepare an
index of all judgments and decrees which have been
rendered in the superior court aforesaid since its
organization, the expense of which index, to be paid
by him out of the receipts of his office as other office
expenses are now paid, and he is further authorized
and required on each day after the adjournment of
the court, to enter in a book to be provided for that
purpose, an index of each judgment and decree ren-
dered in the said court, and to charge and receive ten
cents for each judgment indexed as aforesaid, said
fee to be taxed in the bill of costs of each case in
which judgment is entered, to be collected as other
fees are now collected.

In force from March 10,1864. 1861, c. 74 directs the clerk of the court of
common pleas to keep a general judgment index.

NOTE — The act of 1805, c. 142, relating to duties of the clerk of the court of common pleas
in the matter of licenses, is repealed by the act of 1866, c. 151. See this act under Public
General Laws, Art. LVI, Licenses.
