barrel, every person so marking the same, or know-
ingly permitting the same to be so marked, and
every person knowing such false marking, who shall
omit to make known the same to the inspector to
whom the same may be offered for inspection, shall
forfeit and pay for each and every offence, the sum
of twenty dollars; and in every case, when the in-
spector to whom any barrel or half barrel shall be
offered for inspection, shall suspect any false taring,
he shall cause the contents thereof to be started, and
the barrel or half barrel to be weighed, for the pur-
pose of ascertaining the actual tare; and in every
case where the inspector shall suspect that the actual
contents of any barrel or half barrel, over and above
all tare, is under the standard weight aforesaid, he

therein contained, over and above all tare, shall

fully re-pack the same, without any charge or ex-
pense to the owner thereof; but if the same shall
be found to be under the standard weight, the said
inspector shall add such quantity of flour or meal,

the said standard weigh i ; and the persons or person
by whom or on whose behalf the said barrel or half
barrel shall have been offered for inspection, shall
pay for the first pound so added, the sum of ten
cents, for the second pound, the sum of fifteen cents,
for the third pound, the sum of twenty cents, and
for each additional pound, the sum of twenty-five
cents, and at the same rates for any fraction of a
pound, to be paid by the person or persons, by
whom or in whose behalf the said barrel or half
barrel shall have been offered for inspection.

 

316. The forfeitures hereinbefore mentioned, shall
be paid to the inspector-general of flour for Balti-
more city ; and the same shall be accounted for to
the state, by said inspector-general ; and in case of
any refusal to pay the amount of all, any forfeitures
