CITY COUNCIL.

1865, c. 176 amends section 20 as follows:

SEC. 20. The city council shall meet on the third
Monday in January in each year, but the mayor may
summon them to convene whenever and as often as
it may appear to him that the public good may re-
quire their deliberations ; two-thirds of each branch

ALMSHOUSE.

1862, c. 279 repeals sections 34, 35, 37, 39, 58 and 61 of this article and enacts the
following in lieu thereof:

84. There shall annually be appointed five trustees
of the poor of Baltimore city, by the mayor and city
council of Baltimore, as other city officers are ap-
pointed, who shall be residents of the city of Bal-

timore; and all vacancies that may occur shall be
filled by appointment to be made in the same
manner.

Vacancies

35. The trustees, so appointed, and their succes-
sors, are hereby declared to be a body politic and
corporate, by the name, style and title of the trus-
tees of the poor of Baltimore city, and by that name
shall have perpetual succession, and be capable, in
law, to sue and be sued, and to purchase, hold or
sell, convey and deliver all kinds of lands, tene-
ments, estates, property and effects, real, personal
and mixed.

37. Each trustee shall, before entering upon the
duties of his office, before some judge or justice of
the peace, take and subscribe an oath, that he will
diligently and faithfully execute the duties and trusts,
and exercise the powers, committed to and vested in
him, as trustee of the poor of Baltimore city, accord-
ing to the best of his skill and judgment.
