ART. — .] MEDICAL FACULTY OF MARYLAND.

1667, c. 185 enacts the following :

SEC. 1. On or before the first day of May, eighteen
hundred and sixty-seven, the governor shall appoint
twelve respectable physicians, graduates of some re-
cognized school of medicine, for the city of Baltimore,
and six for each county, who shall constitute a tempo-
rary medical board of examiners for their respective
districts, whose duty it shall be to grant licenses to
such non-practising physicians as are able to prove
to the satisfaction of the board, that they are bona fide
graduates of some respectable medical college ; these

licenses shall be valid until the permanent board
hereinafter provided for, shall be prepared to issue
licenses bearing the seal of the faculty of the state,
each person obtaining such a license shall pay five
dollars into the treasury of the board; the money
accruing from this source shall constitute a fund for
defraying the expenses incurred by the board in the
discharge of their duty, and all money received in
excess of the necessary expenditures of this board
shall be transferred to the permanent board herein-
after provided for ; such money as well as all money
received by said permanent board for licenses issued
by it shall constitute a fund to be disbursed by order
of the faculty of such district; the city of Baltimore
shall constitute a district, and each county of the
state shall constitute a district for the purposes of
this act.

2. All thus licensed physicians shall constitute the
medical faculty of the state of Maryland, and the
members of the said faculty residing in each district
shall meet annually on the first Monday in June, or
as soon thereafter as a number not less than one-fifth
of the whole number licensed, can be convened in
each respective district, at such places as shall be
determined and published by the respective boards
of examiners; at which meetings they shall elect
annually such officers and appoint such committees
as they may consider requisite to form a complete
