ART. — .] IMMIGRATION.

to assume and execute the several duties hereinafter
prescribed and devolved upon him.

12. Said immigrant agent shall travel through
Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and other
states, or such of them, or such portions of them
or either of them, as in his discretion shall best pro-
mote the object of his agency, and deliver lectures
in the towns or public places on his line of travel, in
which he shall set forth the advantage to capitalists
and laborers of settling in the state of Maryland, and
with a view to secure large audiences he shall give
public notice by hand bill or by advertisement in
some one of the newspapers published in the nearest
town, at least one week in advance of his purpose
to deliver a lecture or lectures on the object of his
agency.

13. Said agent shall keep an accurate and exact
account of his travelling expenses, and a separate
and exact account of his expenses incurred in pub-
lishing notices of his lectures, which together shall
not exceed the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, and
shall quarterly transmit a duplicate of each, attested
by his affidavit, to the comptroller of the treasury,
who on being satisfied of their accuracy, and that the
same included only necessary expenses, shall trans-
mit to the said immigrant agent the amount of said
expenses, by draft or by such other method as he
shall think safest, addressing the same to such place
as said agent shall direct.

14. Said immigrant agent shall keep an account
in journal form of the duties he performs, and. as
far as he can judge, of the success of his efforts,
and shall transmit the same, or a duplicate thereof,
quarterly, to the governor of the state for his inspec-
tion.

two years from the day of the passage of this act,
and shall receive a salary of two thousand dollars per
