the city of Baltimore, the amount allowed on the levy for in-
solvencies and abatements, and shall transmit a statement of the
same to the State Superintendent; and to each county and the
city of Baltimore, a statement of the amount apportioned to it.
138. From and after the first day of January, eighteen hundred
and sixty-seven, all the sections of the several articles of the
Public Local Laws, relating to the levying of taxes upon the
taxable property of the several counties and cities of the State
for school purposes, are hereby repealed.
134. All the sections of the several articles of the Public
General and Local Laws relating to schools, inconsistent with
the provisions of this act, and all acts of Assembly passed since
the adoption of the code relating to schools, inconsistent with
the provisions of this act, are hereby repealed.
In force from March 24, 1865, provided, nevertheless, that the schools now in opera-
tion may be continued under existing laws, until the thirtieth day of June, eighteen
hundred and sixty-five, and the present county school authorities shall exercise all
the powers vested in them, until Monday the tenth day of July, eighteen hundred
and sixty-five,
Chapter 1 enacts the following:
135. The office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruc-
tion, shall be located in the city of Baltimore, and the superin-
tendent is authorized to rent suitable rooms at an annual cost
not exceeding four hundred dollars, and the Treasurer on the
warrant of the Comptroller, is authorized to pay the same in
quarterly instalments.
136. The sum of fifteen hundred dollars, or so much thereof as
is necessary, is hereby appropriated to furnish the office of the
State Superintendent, and the Treasurer, on the warrant of the
Comptroller, is authorized to pay the said sum to the superin-
tendent.
137. The State Librarian shall furnish for the office of the State
Superintendent of Public Instruction, copies of the Code and
Laws of subsequent dates, the Constitutions of Maryland, and
