80 COLLECTORS, SHERIFFS, SECURITIES, &C.

SEC. 3. An be it enacted, That this act shall not continue in force
more than one year from the date of its passage.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this get shall take effect from its
passage.

JOSHUA W. PHILLIPS.

AN ACT to allow Joshua W. Phillips, late Sheriff and Collector, of Somerset county,
further time to complete his collections, and to give him power to do so.

SECTION 1. Be it evaded by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Joshua W. Phillips, late Sheriff and Collector, of Somerset county,
be and he is hereby authorized and empowered for twelve months from
the passage of this act, to complete his collections as Sheriff and Col-
lector of the county and State taxes, in Somerset county, with the same
and as full authority to compel and enforce payment of taxes and fees
due him as Sheriff and Collector, as he had when first appointed and
qualified, provided, that nothing in this act shall be construed to extend
the time of payment of any money due from said Phillips, as Collector
of the State and county taxes aforesaid; provided, the said Sheriff shall
make affidavit, to be filed with the execution in each case, that the fine
or forfeiture in said execution specified, has not been paid to said
Sheriff.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from its
passage.

MARANDA PORTER AND HARRIET PORTER.

AN ACT for the relief of Maranda Porter and Harriet Porter, of Carroll county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Maranda Porter and Harriet Porter, of Carroll county, who were
convicted of an assault and battery upon the body of a certain Mary
Ann Cain, at the September term, eighteen hundred and sixty, of the
Circuit Court for said county, be and they are hereby, each and both of
them, exempted and released from all costs and charges arising or ac-
cruing from their conviction in the aforesaid case of assault and battery.

SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That this act shall take effect from the date of
its passage.
