TITLE V—MINE MANAGEMENT AND OPERATION.

CHAPTER VII—General Duties of Operator.

An. Code, 1924, sec. 55. 1922, ch. 307, sec. 54.

55. Every operator of a mine in this State shall annually, on or before
the first day of March in each year, make to the Bureau a report, under
oath, upon uniform blank forms to be furnished by the Bureau, covering
such facts regarding the production and conditions of such mine during the
calendar year last preceding, as the Bureau may require.

56. On or before the 25th day of each month, every operator of a
bituminous coal mine shall if required make such report to the district
mine inspector upon blank forms to be furnished by the Bureau, covering
such facts regarding the production and conditions of such mine during
the preceding calendar month, as the Bureau may reasonably require for
the use of such inspector.

57. Every such operator shall give the Bureau immediate notice in
such manner as such Bureau may prescribe, in any of the following cases:

(a) When any change occurs in the name of the operator of a mine, or
of an executive official concerned in the operation of such mine; or in the
designation of such mine.

(b) When a mine has been abandoned, or the working thereof discon-
tinued.

(c) When work has commenced for the purpose of opening a new mine;
together with sketch maps outlining the plans intended to be pursued in
opening the same.

(d) When the working of a mine is resumed after an abandonment or
discontinuance for a period exceeding two months.

(e) When a squeeze, crush, or fire occurs, or a dangerous body of water
or explosive or noxious gas is found.

58. Every such operator shall have authority to adopt such regula-
tions, not inconsistent with this sub-title or the regulations of the Bureau
pursuant thereto, as the Chief Mine Engineer may approve; which regu-
lations shall apply only to such matters as tend to the preservation of life,
health and property and the prevention of injury to the employees of the
mine; and which regulations shall be printed by the operator in all lan-
guages spoken by not less than ten employees at such mine, both in pam-
phlet form for distribution to every employee desiring the same, and upon
large placards to be posted at conspicuous places at and within the mine;
and when so posted all the employees shall be deemed to have notice and
to have agreed to the provisions thereof; provided, that nothing herein
contained shall be construed to deprive the operator of any mine subject to
this sub-title of any power of ownership, management and control not
affected by this sub-title or existing law.
