Compensation.

162. The sheriffs in the several counties shall, respectively, be allowed
the sum of twelve dollars ($12.00) for each election held in their county
for the performance of the duties therein required, to be levied as other
county charges; provided, that when two or more elections are to be held
the same day the sheriff shall not be allowed more than twelve dollars for
such election (except in Baltimore City) ; all judges, whether acting as or
sitting as officers of registration, and clerks of election, shall be allowed
and paid three dollars per day; fractions of a day shall be allowed for at
the rate of thirty cents an hour. In the City of Baltimore, in the year
1907, and thereafter, the judges when acting as officers of registration shall
be allowed and paid eight dollars a day, and all judges and clerks when
sitting as officers of election shall be allowed and paid ten dollars for each
election conducted by them; each judge and each clerk of election who
has performed all the duties and services required of him by this Article
shall be allowed pay for his time as above provided. When any judge
or clerk does not perform all the services required by this Article, then
such board of supervisors of elections shall audit his time and allow him
compensation only for the time during which he has actually served. Pro-
vided, that in St. Mary's County judges and clerks of election shall be paid
an additional fifty cents each per hour for every hour of work done after
the closing of the polls on any election day, including work done oa the
day following such election day. Provided, that in Howard County the
judges, whether acting as or sitting as officers of registration and clerks
of election, shall be allowed six dollars ($6.00) per day; and the fractions
of a day shall be allowed for at the rate of sixty cents per hour. Provided,
that in Montgomery County the judges, when acting as officers of registra-
tion, shall be allowed and paid the sum of eight dollars ($8.00) per day
and shall be paid an additional sum of fifty cents per hour for each hour
of work done after the closing of the books of registration, or for any
time in excess of ten hours per day which is expended in connection with
their duties required by law in locating voters on suspect lists and pre-
paring and mailing notices, and such judges, when acting as judges of elec-
tions and the clerks of elections shall be paid the sum of eight dollars per
day for each election conducted by them for their services until the hour
of the closing of the polls and shall be paid an additional sum of fifty
cents per hour for each hour thereafter. Provided, that in Prince George's
County, the judges and clerks of election shall be allowed and paid the
sum of eight dollars ($8.00) per day and such additional compensation
as the County Commissioners and Board of Supervisors of Elections of
said County may agree upon.
Compensation of officers of registration under act of 1822, ch. 22, extended to the
time occupied in making and publishing lists of persons registered, as well as to that
consumed in actual registration, the number of days so occupied not to exceed five.
