439. If any minister shall knowingly celebrate the rites of marriage
between any persons related in the degrees of kindred and affinity pro-
hibited by law, he shall on conviction pay five hundred dollars.

440. If any minister, pastor or other person who, according to the
laws of this State do usually join people in marriage, shall upon any pre-
tense join in marriage any negro with any white person, he shall on con-
viction be fined one hundred dollars.

441. If any person shall celebrate the rites of marriage between any
persons except the persons authorized by the laws of this State to cele-
brate the rites of marriage, such person on conviction thereof shall be
fined five hundred dollars.

442. If any person in this State shall marry without such license, or
without such publication as the law requires, on conviction he shall be
fined one hundred dollars. This section shall not apply to Quakers who
marry according to the usages of their society.

443. If any minister shall marry any person without such license or
publication, on conviction thereof he shall be fined one hundred dollars.

444. It shall be unlawful for any minister of the Gospel, or other per-
son who, under the laws of the State of Maryland, is now or may here-
after be authorized to perform the marriage ceremony, to give either di-
rectly or indirectly, or offer to give any money, present or reward, to any
hotel or railroad porter, or to any other person or persons, as an induce-
ment to said hotel or railroad porter, or other person or persons, to bring,
take or direct any person or persons contemplating matrimony to said min-
ister of the Gospel or other person so authorized to perform said rite or
ceremony. Any person or persons violating the provisions of this section
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof
shall be fined not less than ten dollars nor more than fifty dollars for
each offense.

445. All marriages between a white person and a negro, or between
a white person and a person of negro descent, to the third generation, in-
clusive, or between a white person and a member of the Malay race or be-
tween a negro and a member of the Malay race, or between a person of
negro descent, to the third generation, inclusive, and a member of the
Malay race, are forever prohibited, and shall be void; and any person
violating the provisions of this Section shall be deemed guilty of an infa-
mous crime, and punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary not less
