bushel; red top grass seed (chaff), 14 pounds per bushel; red top grass
seed (fancy), 32 pounds per bushel; rape, 50 pounds per bushel; straw,
2, 000 pounds one ton; salt (coarse), 70 pounds per bushel; salt (fine),
56 pounds per bushel; sorghum, 50 pounds per bushel; timothy grass seed,
45 pounds per bushel; turnips, 60 pounds per bushel; wheat, 60 pounds

Cantaloupes.

1933, ch. 404, sec. 46A. 1935, ch. 395.

46A. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation, partner-
ship or other association to buy, sell, ship, transport, offer or expose for sale
or shipment, or place upon the market, for human consumption, any canta-
loupes in closed containers, unless said cantaloupes are mature; and that
mature in the case of cantaloupes shall mean that the appearance of the
outside indicates maturity, and the arils which surround the seed during
the development of maturity have been absorbed and, in addition, that the
juice of the edible portion shall contain not less than eight per cent, soluble
solids as determined by the Balling or Brix scale hydrometer.

46B. The standard grades for cantaloupes as or when, promulgated by
the United States Department of Agriculture as United States Government
grades, are hereby made the official State grades for all cantaloupes in the
State of Maryland, when packed in closed containers, whether offered or
exposed for sale or presented for intrastate or interstate shipment, and that
all closed containers, the cantaloupes in which are offered or exposed for
sale, or presented for shipment, shall have plainly and conspicuously
marked thereon the name and address of the person, firm, corporation, part-
nership, or other association producing or marketing the cantaloupes as
well as the true name of the variety. If the true name of the variety is
not known to the packer or the person by whom the package is packed then
such package shall be marked "variety unknown. "

46C. The State Board of Agriculture, through its Department of Mar-
kets of the Extension Service and the duly authorized agents of said De-
partment of Markets, is hereby authorized, empowered and directed to
enforce the provisions of this sub-title, and to define, promulgate and en-
force such rules and regulations as it may deem necessary to secure uni-
formity in the enforcement of this sub-title and the proper marking of
closed containers for cantaloupes and shall not be in conflict with any of
the provisions of this sub-title.
