by the State's Attorney.

748. The clerk of said court, or the crier thereof, shall administer to

every witness, prior to his or her appearing before the State's Attorney,
the following oath, viz.: The evidence which you shall give before the
State's Attorney for Baltimore County in the matter depending before
him shall be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help
you God. And all wilful and corrupt false swearing by any witness in
any material point of inquiry before said State's Attorney in any case
referred to him under this Act shall be deemed perjury, and any person
convicted of such wilful and corrupt false swearing shall suffer the pen-
alty now provided by law to be imposed upon persons convicted of the

crime of perjury.

749. The provisions of this subtitle shall apply to all common law and
statutory misdemeanors committed within the limits of Baltimore County
which may by any law of this State now in force or which may hereafter
be enacted be prosecuted by presentment or indictment in the Circuit
Court for said county, and the said court shall have the power to impose
the same fines and penalties upon conviction, upon information under this
Act as are now provided by law, or may hereafter be provided by law,
to be imposed upon conviction for such offenses upon presentment or in-
dictment.

750. The State's Attorney for Baltimore County is hereby authorized
and empowered to appoint a clerk, at a compensation of sixty dollars per
month, to be paid by the County Commissioners of Baltimore County,
which said clerk shall perform such clerical work in the said State's Attor-
ney's office and such other work as he may be directed by the said State's
Attorney.

1929, ch. 481, sec. 750A.

750A. The State's Attorney for Baltimore County is hereby author-
ized and empowered to appoint a law assistant to said State's Attorney at
a compensation not exceeding eighteen hundred ($1,800.00) dollars per
annum, to be paid out of the fees coming into the hands of the said State's
Attorney for Baltimore County, which said law assistant shall perform
such work in the said State's Attorney's office and such other work as he
may be directed by the said State's Attorney.
