a hog pen or pig pen within fifty feet of any well, spring, pond, lake,
river or stream, the water of which may be used for drinking or cooking
purposes, or in violation of the aforesaid regulations in Baltimore County,
under a penalty of not less than ten dollars, and the said District Health
Officer shall immediately remove the same.

313. Any person who shall commit a nuisance by throwing any dead
animal or garbage or offal of any kind into any highway, byway or alley,
or upon any vacant lot, in any town or village in Baltimore County, or
in the vicinity thereof, or who shall fail to remove it within twenty-four
hours after receipt of notice from the District Health Officer, shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be
subject to a fine of not less than one dollar, nor more than five dollars
for each such offense, and shall be requested to pay the cost of removal to
the County Commissioners.

314. Whenever it shall come to the attention of the County Commis-
sioners that any road or street, avenue, alley, byway or highway of any
kind used by the public, and whether a county highway or not is in an

unsanitary condition, prejudicial to the health of the neighborhood, it
shall be the duty of said County Commissioners to cause an investiga-
tion of such condition to be made, and if, upon such investigation, the
same is found to be in an unsanitary condition and prejudicial to the
health of the neighborhood, said County Commissioners shall cause the
same to be abated as hereinafter provided.

315. If upon such investigation it is ascertained that the nuisance com-
plained of originated on lands adjoining or near to such road, street, alley

or other highway, said County Commissioners may notify the owner or
owners, occupier or occupiers of such lands, or the person or persons in
charge or control thereof, to abate the source or sources of such nuisance,
and if the same be not abated within the time prescribed in such notice,
the person so notified shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon
Conviction thereof be subjected to a fine of not less than five nor more
than fifty dollars for each offense. Each day such nuisance shall be con-
tinued after the expiration of the period prescribed by said notice shall
constitute a separate offense within the meaning of this section.

316. If, upon such investigation, the origin of such nuisance is found
to be uncertain, or such nuisance is found to have been contributed to
by a large number of persons, or is the result of inadequate drainage or
