608 ARTICLE 3.

of not less than two hundred dollars per annum; one such officer for the
Twelfth Election District, with a salary of not less than three hundred
dollars per annum; one such officer for the Thirteenth Election District,,
with a salary of not less than two hundred and fifty dollars per annum;
one such officer for the Fourteenth Election District, with a salary of not
less than two hundred dollars per annum; one such officer for the Fif-
teenth Election District, with a salary of not less than two hundred and
fifty dollars per annum; all of the said salaries to be payable quarterly.
The County Commissioners may select one of the district health officers
to be County Health Officer, in which case he shall not receive the addi-
tional compensation provided for him as District Health Officer. The said
District Health Officers shall hold office for two years from the date of
their appointment, unless sooner removed for cause by said County Com-
missioners.

299. The County Health Officer and the District Health Officers so
appointed shall within ten days of the date of their appointment, meet
in Towson, and shall organize a board of sanitary officers for Baltimore
County. The County Health Officer shall be ex officio president and
executive officer of the Board. They shall meet quarterly in Towson on
such days in February, May, August and November as may be designated
by the County Commissioners. The district health officers shall in their
respective district exercise all the powers and perform all the duties which
have been, or which shall hereafter be prescribed by the Public General
Laws of Maryland for secretaries of local boards of health under the direc-
tion of and subject to the approval of the County Health Officer, for which
services they shall receive no further compensation. They shall have gen-
eral care of the sanitary interests of the residents of their respective dis-
tricts, and shall make sanitary investigations and inquiries respecting
the causes of disease, especially epidemics and the causes of mortality;
they shall inquire into and investigate all nuisances affecting the health,
comfort or property of the citizens of their respective districts, and for
this purpose they are authorized to go upon any premises or into any
house in their respective districts. They shall furnish the County Health
Officer with a full report on all their investigations and findings in such
matters, and shall take such steps as the County Commissioners shall
direct to abate any nuisance injuriously affecting the public health or lives
of the persons making complaint, or unduly injuring the health or com-
fort, or damaging the property of the persons affected by the aforesaid
nuisance. In case of any epidemic or contagious or infectious diseases
within the county, the County Commissioners or the County Health
Officer may send one or all of said sanitary officers to the locality where
the said epidemic exists, for which services they shall receive no extra
compensation. The said sanitary officers shall serve as sub-registrars,
and as such shall perform the duties prescribed by the Public General
