5290 ARTICLE 24.

1914, ch. 182. 1920 Code, sec. 326.

245. The said Treasurer, before he enters upon the duties of his said
office, shall take an oath before the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Wor-
cester County that he will faithfully perform the duties of the same, and
he shall also execute a bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of
twenty-five thousand dollars for the faithful performance of his duties aa
Treasurer and as Clerk to the County Commissioners of Worcester Coun-
ty, the premium on said bond shall be paid for by the County Commis-
sioners, and further conditioned that he shall well and truly account and
be liable for any and all moneys coming into his possession as Treasurer
and collector or for which he shall be answerable by law, which bond shall
be secured by a fidelity or security company qualified to act as surety or
guarantor under the laws of the State of Maryland, and shall be approved
by one of the Judges of the Circuit Court of Worcester County, and there-
after be recorded in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for said
county.

246. Upon failure of any Treasurer-elect to execute the bond required
and provided for by the preceding section on or before the day upon which
he is to take possession of the office of Treasurer and enter upon the duties
thereof, in conformity with the provisions of this Act, the County Com-
missioners of Worcester County shall appoint some person eligible and
qualified for election as Treasurer aforesaid, as Treasurer and collector
during this term in the place of the one who failed to qualify; and in case
of his failure to qualify within thirty days, to appoint another, and so
on after every interval of thirty days until a Treasurer shall be duly
qualified.

247. In case of the death, resignation, or removal of the Treasurer
during his term of office, the County Commissioners of Worcester County
shall, within thirty days thereafter, appoint a Treasurer and collector for
the unexpired term thus created, who shall take the oath, give the bond
and perform all the duties of said office prescribed by law.

248. The County Treasurer in addition to his duties as Treasurer and
collector, shall perform all the duties of Clerk to the County Commis-
sioners of Worcester County, without any extra compensation whatso-
ever; and he is empowered to administer an oath or affirmation to any
account to any person presenting a claim against Worcester County, but
he shall not administer such oath or affirmation in any other place than
in the office of the County Commissioners nor shall he be allowed any fee
for administering said oath or affirmation.

249. The County Commissioners shall make their annual levy for
State and County taxes on or before first Tuesday in June, in each and
