urer; and the said bonds when approved shall be recorded in the office
of the clerk of the Circuit Court for said county; and the person so
elected, before he enters upon the duties of his office, shall take an oath
before the clerk of the Circuit Court for said county in form similar to
that heretofore taken by collectors of taxes, except as to the title of office,
and to be similarly certified; in case of the default of the person so
elected to execute the bonds hereinbefore required and qualify within
thirty days after his election, and to execute the renewal of the bonds with-
in thirty days after the time the same are hereinbefore required to be
renewed, or in the event of the treasurer's removal from office, or his
ceasing to reside in said county, or his death or resignation during his
term of office, the County Commissioners for said county shall declare
said office vacant and at once proceed to fill the same by the appointment
of a suitable person to serve as treasurer until his successor shall be
elected at the next general election thereafter to be held for county officers
in said county, and qualified as hereinbefore required; and such person so
appointed to fill a vacancy shall, within twenty days from the date of
his appointment, give bond and qualify as hereinbefore directed; and said
Commissioners shall continue after every twenty days to make such ap-
pointment until a treasurer shall bond and qualify as aforesaid; the
sureties on any treasurer's bond shall, when so required by said Commis-
sioners, make oath in due form of law, respectively, that they are the
owners in their own right of real estate situated in the State of Mary-
land, equal, at least, over and above their liabilities and debts, in -value
to the amount of their bond; and it shall be the duty of said Commis-
sioners, before approving the bond of any treasurer as hereinbefore pro-
vided, to cause the records of the county or city wherein the sureties reside
or wherein their property is situated, to be searched by their counsel or
by some competent person, for the purpose of ascertaining the sufficiency
of such bond as presented for approval; and the person making the search
shall, under oath, report to the said Commissioners the result of such
examination; the Commissioners may at any time demand of any treas-
urer such other and further bond, with such other and further security,
as in their judgment the interests of the State or said county may require;
and in case of the default of such treasurer to furnish such additional
security required within the time specified, the said County Commission-
ers shall declare said office vacant and proceed to fill the same as herein-
before provided in cases of vacancies.

urer an office in the Court House Building, in the City of Annapolis,
and it shall be the duty of the treasurer to keep his said office open from
ten o'clock in the forenoon until three o'clock in the afternoon, and to
attend therein for the transaction of business, in person or by deputy, on
