733. At the close of the polls the judge shall immediately count the
ballots, cast up the vote and return under his hand and seal to the Burgess
and Commissioners the number of votes cast for each candidate, or for
and against any measure voted for, and at the same time return the bal-
lots and all records of said election, and the Burgess and Commissioners
shall file the same and immediately notify the person or persons chosen
of their election, in accordance with the return of the judge- Before enter-
ing upon their duties, the Burgess, assistant Burgess and Commissioners
elect shall each take and subscribe the following oath or affirmation before
the retiring Burgess or any justice of the peace in and for Washington
county: I will discharge the duties of the office to which I have been
elected in the town of Sharpsburg to the best of my ability, without fear,
favor, affection or partiality; and a copy of said oath or affirmation, with a
certificate of the Burgess or justice, shall be filed among the records of
the corporation. Should any such officer elect fail to qualify within one
month of the date of notice of his election, the office shall be forthwith
filled in accordance with the provisions of Section 729. The Burgess and
Commissioners shall convene at least once a month during each year.

734. At their first regular meeting after each biennial election, or as
soon thereafter as may be convenient, the Burgess, with the advice and
consent of the Commissioners, shall appoint one person as clerk, one per-
son as collector of taxes, and such other officers as may be provided for the
conduct of municipal officers; and in case of any vacancy or removal of
any officer so appointed, the Burgess shall fill the vacancy for the unex-
pired term, with the advice and consent of the Commissioners; either of
said officers shall be subject to removal by a vote of four-fifths of the
Commissioners, or by a vote of three Commissioners, with the approval
of the Burgess. The clerk shall keep minutes of the proceedings of all
meetings of the board, and record all ordinances adopted in a book for
that purpose; keep all records and documents of the town in his safe cus-
tody; keep an accurate account of all money received by him and pay the
same to the treasurer; he shall file all accounts approved by the board and
perform such other duties as are imposed upon him by the law, the ordi-
nances, or order of the board; he shall receive five dollars per year for his
services.

735. All property within the taxable limits of Sharpsburg shall be
taxed for municipal purposes, except such property as is exempt from
taxation under the laws of Maryland; and the assessment for town pur-
poses shall be the same as that for State and County purposes; and the
rate of taxation shall not exceed eighty cents on every hundred dollars'
worth of assessed property. The Tax Collector shall keep an account of
all money collected by him and pay the same to the Treasurer, who shall
