4886 ARTICLE 22.

usual fees therefor; and the burgess or justice who may have directed
such commitment may order any person so committed to be discharged;
provided, such commitment shall not be for more than thirty days; and
the corporation shall be liable to all jail fees of persons so committed.

629. The burgess and commissioners shall have power to appoint a.
constable for said town, with such compensation as may be allowed by
law; he shall be a collector of taxes imposed by the corporation, and shall
have power to collect the same by distress upon either real or personal
property, as collectors of county taxes, and shall give bond in a sufficient
amount to indemnify said town against any loss.

630. They shall have power to appoint all other officers not herein,
named, who may be deemed necessary to execute the powers of said cor-
poration, and the laws thereof.

631. The said corporation shall not issue any note, certificate or other
device to be circulated as money.

632. Whenever a motor vehicle or any part thereof is left by the
owner thereof or by any other person with his authority, express or legally
implied, in the custody of any corporation, firm or individual for storage,
alterations or repairs, or for the purpose of having furnished for or on
account of the same any parts, accessories, tires, gasoline, oils, electric
current, towage or any other material or services, the corporation, firm or
individual in whose custody said automobile or part thereof is left for all
or any of the purposes aforesaid, shall have a lien on said motor vehicle
or part thereof for all charges so incurred, and may lawfully retain the
same until said charges have been paid, or until said lien is extinguished
or discharged as hereinafter provided. Said lien shall be superior to the-
rights of the holders of conditional sale contracts, bills of sale, chattel
mortgages or other liens or claims of any kind which are not executed and
recorded as required by law, but shall be subordinate to the rights of hold-
ers of such conditional sale contracts, bills of sale, chattel mortgages or
other liens or claims where the same have been executed and recorded as
required by law. Surrender or delivery of any motor vehicle subject to
the lien aforesaid shall operate as a waiver or extinguishment of the same
as against third persons without notice thereof, but shall not operate as
such Waiver or extinguishment as against the owner, or as against third
persons with notice.

In case of a dispute as to the amount of the charge of such garage keeper
or other custodian as aforesaid, such dispute shall be determined by ap-
