ALMSHOUSE.

1. On or before the first Monday of March, in each and every year,
the county commissioners of Washington county shall appoint three dis-
creet persons, inhabitants of said county, to act as trustees of the poor
in said county, for one year and when their successors shall be appointed.

2. The clerk of the county commissioners shall, within five days after
such appointment, make out and deliver to each of said trustees, a cer-
tificate of his appointment.

3. The trustees, so appointed, and notified of their appointment, shall
accept said office, under the penalty of twenty-five dollars, and shall meet
within ten days after their said appointment, at the almshouse of said
county, and severally qualify by taking the following oath: "I do solemnly
swear (or affirm) that I will well and faithfully execute and perform the
trust and duties reposed in me as trustee of the poor of Washington
county, without favor, partiality or affection, according to the best of my
skill and knowledge"; which oath may be administered by any justice of
the peace for said county.

4. All vacancies happening by non-acceptance, death, removal ont of
the county, or disqualification of any of said trustees shall be filled by the
county commissioners at their next meeting thereafter.

5. No member of the general assembly, clergyman, attorney or prac-
ticing physician, shall be obliged to accept said office, or be liable to the
penalty for refusing; and no judge, justice of the peace or sheriff, or any
one who has not the qualifications to be a member of the general assembly,
shall be eligible thereto.

6. The said trustees are a corporation by the name of "The trustees of
the poor of Washington county," and by that name shall have perpetual
