1892, ch. 168, sec. 2.
430. Such labor so to be performed by the said incarcerated male
persons shall be done under the direction of said sheriff of Talbot Coun-
ty, or his duly appointed deputy or special deputies, when working on the
county roads, or the bailiff of Easton when working on the streets of same,
acting under authority duly conferred by the said County Commissioners
of Talbot County, and said sheriff of Talbot County shall appoint as his
special deputies for the purpose such duly qualified supervisors of the
roads of said county as in his judgment would probably perform their
work as such deputies.

431. The sheriff of said Talbot County, or his deputy or special
deputies, while actively engaged in working the prisoners or persons in-
carcerated, as aforesaid, shall be paid by the County Commissioners of
Talbot County, as aforesaid, a per diem not to exceed one dollar and fifty
cents, and while working on the streets of Easton the bailiff or special
deputy appointed by the sheriff shall be paid by said Commissioners of
Easton a per diem not to exceed one dollar and fifty cents.

432. The said County Commissioners of Talbot County may allow a
deduction of time, not to exceed five days from each month, or its propor-
tional part, from each month of the period of any person committed or
sentenced as aforesaid, if he shall labor with diligence and fidelity, and
shall not be guilty of a violation of the discipline or any of the rules made
as above prescribed.

433. The sheriff of Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester coun-
ties, or his jailor, upon the demand of the bailiff of any incorporated town
in said counties, or of any supervisor of any public road of said counties,
or other person duly authorized to superintend the repairing of the public
streets of said town, or the public roads of said counties, is herebv author-
ized and required to deliver to such person or official, any male prisoner
over sitxeen years of age, who may be confined in said jail, under sentence
imposed by the Circuit Courts or any Justice of the Peace of said counties
in any case of assault, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, disturbing the
public peace, vagrancy, petty larceny, carrying concealed weapons, gaming
or playing at crap, in order that said bailiff or supervisor or other official
in charge of said public streets or highways may employ such prisoner at
hard labor on the public roads of Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Wor-
cester counties, or on the public streets of any incorporated town of said
counties.
