Before entering upon the discharge of his duties each judge and clerk
of election shall take and subscribe before the Mayor the oath of office
hereinafter provided for all officers under the corporation, and the said
judges and clerks shall have all the powers and be subject to all the
penalties provided by law for judges and clerks appointed for State and
county elections, and they shall receive for their services the sum of two
dollars ($2) each.

142. The town clerk shall provide all ballot-boxes and ballots, official
envelopes, and all registry books, poll books, tally sheets, blanks, and
stationery of every description, and provide all booths and arrangements
in the polling place necessary and proper for the registry of voters and for
the conduct of elections, and the expense thereof shall be paid by the
Mayor and Council of Easton.

143. The town clerk shall, at least thirty days before any regular or
special election, unless otherwise provided, give notice to the voters of
Easton in one or more newspapers published in Easton, of the day and
hours and the place or places of holding such election, and such other
information as may be necessary or advisable to enable the voters to-
intelligently cast their ballots.

144. After the time has expired for presenting nominations the Town
Clerk shall prepare the official ballots and shall cause to be printed thereon
in a single column without device of any kind the names of the nominees
for the respective offices to be filled and he shall cause the names of the
candidates for the same office to be grouped together.
The official ballot shall be of opaque plain white paper and of sufficient
width and length to admit the names of all the nominees and propositions
to be voted for and the name of any person not legally nominated shall
not be counted. To the right of each name on said ballot there shall be a
square space clearly denned by lines in which the voter may express his
choice at said election by making a cross with pen or pencil in the follow-
ing form X.
And whenever there shall be any question submitted to the voters for
their decision the said question shall be placed upon said ballot in full and
shall be voted for by placing upon the ticket "For" and "Against" clearly
denning by suitable words whatever the proposition may be with a space
provided on the right for the voter to express his preference by making a
cross mark as is provided in this Section when voting for the candidates.

145. The voting place shall be in the engine house until otherwise
ordered by the Mayor and Council and the polls shall be kept open from
twelve o'clock M. to eight o'clock P. M.
