4484 ARTICLE 20.

sum in his possession arising from the sale of said land, over and above
the amount of taxes, interest and costs, due at the time of said sale. Pro-
vided, nothing herein contained shall be construed to interfere with or
defeat any sale of real estate made by said Treasurer heretofore, or any
proceedings thereunder.

363. The Treasurer shall issue whenever requested and upon the pay-
ment to him of a fee of fifty cents, a certified statement, over his signature,

of all taxes assessed since the first day of January, 1908, that may be due
and unpaid at the time of making said certificate and are a lien upon any

certain real estate located in Somerset County and on any tax sale affect-
ing said piece of property since that date. The said certificate shall be a
bar to the collection or recovery from any purchaser of real estate after
the issue of said certificate of any tax or assessment omitted therefrom
and which may be a lien upon the real estate mentioned therein, but said
certificate shall not affect the liability therefor of the person who owned
the real estate at the time such tax was levied, or at any time after such
levy and before the issue of said certificate, and said Treasurer shall be
responsible to said county for any loss of taxes that may arise from error
in said certificate.

364. The Treasurer shall receive as compensation for his services as
Treasurer and as clerk to the County Commissioners an annual salary

of $1,800 payable by Somerset 'County.

365. The Treasurer shall appoint a deputy, who shall perform such

duties as the said Treasurer may require, and for whose official conduct
said Treasurer shall be responsible, and who shall act in his stead and
place in his absence, and said deputy shall be paid by Somerset County
an annual salary, the amount of which is to be determined by the County
Commissioners of said county, provided, it shall in no event be more than
twelve hundred dollars.*

366. The said County Treasurer shall be subject to removal from office
sit all times by the Judges of the Circuit Court of Somerset County upon

conviction for wilful neglect of duty, misdemeanor or malfeasance in

office, and said conviction shall be based upon presentment and indictment
by the Grand Jury of Somerset County.

367. The County Commissioners shall appoint and furnish the Treas-
urer an office in the Courthouse for transaction of his official business,
