4476 ARTICLE 20.

WATER.

1908, ch. 573, sec. 1 (p. 1000).

334. The President and Commissioners of Princess Anne are hereby
authorized to sell the water works system now owned and operated by the
town of Princess Anne at a sum not less than ten thousand dollars, when-
ever a majority of the male and female taxables upon the assessment books
of said town, both in numbers and in the amount of taxes paid by them,
shall file with the said President and Commissioners of Princess Anne, a
petition in writing signed by them praying for such a sale.

335. In the event of such sale the President and Commissioners of
Princess Anne shall use so much of the purchase money as may be neces-
sary in creating a sinking fund for the redemption of the bonded indebt-
edness of said town when the same matures, and shall use the balance of
said purchase money in improving the streets of said town.

1929, ch. 199, sec. 1.

336. The President and Commissioners of Princess Anne are hereby
authorized to hold and possess for corporate purposes, all the property and
equipment constituting the water supply and distribution system in the
Town of Princess Anne, which have been purchased and installed from
time to time by said President and Commissioners of Princess Anne, and
to continue the operation of said system to supply the inhabitants of the
Town of Princess Anne with water and to keep available sufficient water
for fire protection in said Town and to charge and collect from the said
inhabitants of said Town, such rentals for the use of water supplied to
such inhabitants, as to the said President and Commissioners may seem
fair and reasonable, either upon a meter rate or upon a flat charge per
opening or spigot or by a combination of the two methods, the aggregate
of such rates and charges at all times to be sufficient to maintain the
operation of said system, to keep the same in repair, to liquidate the
indebtedness incurred by said Town on account of the construction or
extension of said system and to provide for the necessary extension and
enlargement of said system as the necessities of the Town shall from time
to time demand.*

337. It shall not be necessary to publish the public local laws relating
to Somerset county in all the newspapers of said county.

*Sec. 2, ch. 199, 1929, authorized the town to borrow $5,000 on notes to pay in-
debtedness for extending water works during 1928, subject to referendum vote.
