4464 ARTICLE 20.

1916, ch, 179, sec. 5.

297. All clams that are offered for sale in the State of Maryland, or
that are manifested for shipment with any of the transportations* of
Maryland for Interstate shipment, shall be counted by the shipper, or
his legal agent; the count of each sack, barrel, or container of what-
ever description shall be plainly marked, either on some conspicuous
place on the container itself, or on the tag containing the name of the
consignee and the consignor, these words "This Package Contains......

Clams, Full Quantity Guaranteed"; and, no clams shall be offered for
sale that do not measure at least one and one-half inches in dimension
at its longest points. Any person, firm or corporation which shall falsely
mark any such container with a number larger than is actually contained
therein, or which shall sell or offer for sale any clams of a size smaller
than is provided in this section shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and shall, upon conviction, be fined or imprisoned as hereinafter provided.

298. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall upon con-
viction thereof before any Justice of the Peace for said County, be fined
not less than twenty dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, or shall
be committed to the County Jail for a period not exceeding 60 days,
at the discretion of said Justice, the defendant having the right of
appeal to the Circuit Court for said County. All persons taking or
catching clams under the provisions of this Act shall exhibit their
authority for so doing when required by any officer of the oyster police
force or other officers of the State.

299. The inhabitants of the town of Princess Anne, in Somerset coun-
ty, are hereby made and declared a body corporate, with all the privi-
leges of a body corporate, by the name of the president and commissioners
of Princess Anne, and by that name shall have perpetual succession,
rnay sue and be sued, may purchase, hold and dispose of real, personal
and mixed property for the use and benefit of said town, and may have
and use a common seal.

300. The place of holding the election, and the mode of appointing the
judges of election, shall be such as the commissioners may designate; but
the judges of election appointed by them shall make oath before the clerk
of the Circuit Court for Somerset county, that he will permit to vote all
