dollars per diem when he shall be employed, and he shall be allowed
such reasonable expenses as the court may deem proper and right, he
shall be paid by the County Commissioners in like manner as the members
of the grand jury are paid, upon certificate of the Clerk of the Circuit
Court, when duly appointed by one of the judges of said court.

185. The Judges of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County are
hereby authorized to appoint a Court Stenographer and typist for said
county, to serve for such time as may be designated by the Court who shall
be a sworn officer of the Court. The Court Stenographer and typist so
appointed shall perform such duties as may be designated by the Court as
said stenographer and typist and also to take full stenographic notes of
all testimony given in equity causes, before any of the Standing Examiners
of said Court and to transcribe and typewrite said evidence to be filed
in said cause, unless the Court shall by its order direct or permit said
testimony to be taken down and transcribed by a stenographer in a
Solicitor's office, the price to be paid for the work of taking testimony by
private stenographers in Solicitor's offices to be the same as allowed by the
Court to the Public Stenographer for taking and transcribing testimony in
Equity Causes; and it shall be the duty of said stenographer to furnish
upon request of any party to any proceeding, copies of the evidence taken
in any case either at law or in equity as well as copies of the Court's opin-
ions in equity cases upon payment by the party or parties ordering the
same the usual rates for the same, said rates to be fixed by the order of
the Court. The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County are
hereby directed to levy annually the sum of twelve hundred dollars
($1,200) for the payment of such salary as may be fixed by the Court
as the salary of said stenographer as also for such per diem as may be
allowed by the Court to a Clerk and Stenographer to the Grand Jury,
when by reason of the Court Stenographer being engaged in taking testi-
mony at the trial of cases in the Circuit Court said stenographer cannot be
present to take testimony before the Grand Jury. The County Com-
missioners shall pay said Court Stenographer out of said twelve hundred
dollars ($1,200) so levied, the monthly salary fixed by the Court; as well
as the per diem of the Clerk and Stenographer to the Grand Jury when
one has been employed by the Court, but the stenographic work in said
Court to be levied by the County Commissioners, shall not in any one
year exceed twelve hundred dollars ($1,200).*

186. The said Court Stenographer shall be entitled to charge as part
of his own compensation, in addition to his $1,200.00 per annum salary,
for all stenographic work and typewriting done by him in equity cases
the usual per diem and rates for taking testimony, transcribing and fur-
nishing copies of the same when requested so to do, except such copies as
