3828 ARTICLE 17.

344. The treasurer shall keep his office open in the Court House at
Upper Marlboro, in said county from ten o'clock A. M. until three o'clock
P. M. each day, Sundays and legal holidays excepted, for the purpose of
discharging the duties of his office.

345. The treasurer shall at the end of his term of office, deliver up the
office to his successor, and all papers and books relative thereto, except the
books containing taxes of the last annual levy uncollected by him and for
which his bond is responsible and he shall be allowed nine months there-
after to complete the collection of the same, and to make final settlement
with the County Commissioners of Prince George's County and the
treasurer of the State of Maryland, said books retained by him, as herein-
before provided, shall not be removed, however, from the treasurer's office.

346. The Treasurer shall be entitled to appoint such clerk or clerks as
he may deem necessary, and for whose official conduct he shall be re-
sponsible ; said clerk or clerks to be paid by the Treasurer out of the salary
provided by law to be paid him as compensation for the discharge of his
official duties as the collector of taxes, but in addition thereto the County
Commissioners may in their discretion allow and pay over to said Treas-
urer for additional clerk hire an amount not to exceed in any one year
the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000).*

347. All county taxes shall be paid in cash or in the matured coupons
of Prince George's County bonds; and all money collected by the Treas-
urer and belonging to said County shall be deposited by him, as. soon as
collected, in the name of the Treasurer of said County, and not in his
individual name, in such amounts and in such safe bank or banks of said
County as are approved by him and which will agree to pay interest on
said deposits of not less than two per cent, per annum, computed monthly
on the daily average balances of said Treasurer. All interest earned by
said funds shall be credited to the respective accounts of said Treasurer
send-annually, and accounted for by him.

348. All county taxes shall be due on the first day of July next suc-
ceeding their levy, and shall bear interest from that date. On such as
remain unpaid after the first day of November following, there shall
accrue, in addition to said interest, a penalty of one-half of one per cent,
for each whole month that they may elapse thereafter, until payment or
a sale for default which is finally ratified by the Court.

*Sec. 2, ch. 493, 1929, repealed all laws inconsistent therewith.
