box each member of said Board of County Commissioners shall draw
from said box one ballot and the term of years written on such ballot shall
determine the term of office of the respective members of said board so
drawing the same and the said commissioners shall receive as full com-
pensation for their services, the sum of three hundred dollars per annum
payable monthly and shall not receive any extra compensation of any kind
whatsoever and they shall meet a their office in Upper Marlboro twice in
each month or oftener if in their judgment the public interest shall require.

309. At the general election to be held on the first Tuesday after the
first Monday of November, eighteen hundred and ninety-three, there shall
be elected two county commissioners to serve in the place of those whose
terms shall then expire, and at said general election in eighteen hundred
and ninety-five two more to serve in place of those whose term of office
shall then expire, and at the general election in eighteen hundred and
ninety-seven one commissioner to serve in the place of the one whose term
shall then expire as hereinbefore provided, and the term of all county
commissioners shall be six years from the date of their respective elections,
or until their successors are duly elected and qualified; provided, that in
case of vacancy in said Board of County Commissioners from any cause
whatever the Governor shall appoint a suitable person to serve until the
next general election, and if then the term of the party or parties whose
office or offices shall have so become vacant shall have not have become
completed there shall be elected a person or persons to fill out the balance
of the unexpired term or terms and at all ensuing general elections the
same order as to the election of the successors of the parties whose terms
shall have expired shall be observed so as to carry out the provisions of
this Act.*

310. The said county commissioners shall not be eligible for re-election
until not less than two years from the expiration of their term of office
respectively.

311. If at any time the number of county commissioners shall have
been reduced to less than three, the Governor shall appoint a proper person
to fill such vacancy until the next general election, and if the term of the
commissioners whose place shall be so filled be not then completed, a com-
missioner shall then be elected to serve for such unexpired term.

312. They shall annually appoint a clerk; and in case of vacancy in
the office of clerk, shall fill such vacancy at their first meeting thereafter.
*All elective county officials are elected for four-year terms under Art. 17 of Md
Constitution.
