3748 ARTICLE 17.

Prince George's County shall be adhered to and followed, and that the
Corporation Counsel for the town of Brentwood shall act as the prosecut-
ing officer.

119. Any party desiring to run for said Mayor, Treasurer, or Coun-
cilman of said town shall be at least 23 years of age, and shall have resided
within the corporate limits of said town at least two years prior to elec-
tion, and each of whom shall be assessed on the books of said town of
Prince George's County for at least $300.00; and any person desiring to
run for said Mayor and Treasurer of said town shall file with the Board
of Election Supervisors of said town, as provided for in Section 114 of this
subtitle, a petition containing the names of at least 20 persons, voters in
the town of Brentwood; and any person desiring to run for Councilman
from his Ward shall file a petition with said Board of Election Super-
visors containing the names of at least 10 voters in his ward at least
fifteen days, including Sundays and legal holidays, prior to election.
When said petitions have been filed and the time for their filing having
expired, the Board of Election Supervisors shall cause to be published
in some manner as shall give general publicity, the names of the peti-
tioners and the position to which they aspire.

120. The Mayor with the approval of the majority of the Town Coun-
cil shall appoint a Police Justice, a Marshal, a health officer, and a clerk,
to hold office for one year, or until their successors are appointed and
qualified. The Council shall fix the compensation of each and of all
subordinates under them, and shall prescribe their duties except as herein
provided. The Marshal and the health officer shall each, with the approval
of the Mayor and Town Council, appoint such assistant or assistants, as
the Council will allow, and shall be held responsible under the Mayor for
the enforcement of such ordinances as the Mayor and Town Council may
prescribe. They shall attend the meetings of the Council, and perform
such duties as they may be directed. The clerk shall keep the minutes
of the proceedings of the Mayor and Town Council in a well bound book
to be provided by the Mayor and Council, which shall be open to inspec-
tion of all persons interested therein. He shall receive the taxes and
other moneys due the town, and deliver the same to the Treasurer, keeping
a record of each item. The Treasurer shall keep all moneys belonging
to the town and disburse the same only in accordance with the ordinances
and the orders of the Mayor and Town Council. The Clerk and the
Treasurer shall each give bond to the Council in such penalties and with
such sureties as the Council may require. The Marshal shall preserve
the peace and good order of the town, and for this purpose he is vested
with the same power and authority as constables now have or may have
hereafter under the laws of this State, within the corporate limits of said
town. The health officer shall make as frequent inspection as may be .
necessary to maintain the public health and sanitary condition of the
