3618 ARTICLE 16.

And be it further stated that it is the belief of the General Assembly
that more effective police protection and service will prevail in Montgom-
ery County, if the Sheriff and his deputies perform the Civil duties inci-
dent to the Courts of the County as set forth in this law and leave to the
Montgomery County police force the immediate responsibility for the
enforcement of the criminal laws of the county

SILVER SPRING.

1927, ch 500

902. For the purpose of providing funds with which to maintain and
operate a fire depaitmcnt in the Second Precinct of the Thirteenth Elec-
tion District (Silver Spring) in said Montgomery County The County
Commissioners of Montgomery County are hereby authorized and empow-
ered to levy annually against all real and personal property within said
area a tax sufficient, but not in any event more than six cents (06) on
each one hundred dollars of the assessable value of the real and personal
property within said area, to pay annually to the Silver Spung Volunteer
Fire Department, Inc, the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars for main-
taining and operating the said fire department, said tax to be determined,
levied, collected and paid over in the following manner: At least thirty
days before the tax levying period of each year the County Commissioners
of said County determine the number of cents per one hundied dollars of
said assessable value necessary to raise the required amount of twenty-five
hundred dollars The said County Commissioners in their next annual
levy may levy said tax on all land and improvements and any other
property assessed for County tax purpose within said Precinct, which
tax may be levied and shall be collected as County taxes are now or may
be hereafter levied and collected, and have the same priority, rights, bear
the same interest and penalties and in eveiy respect be treated the same
as County taxes The taxes so levied for the ensuing year shall be col-
lected by the tax collecting authorities of said county and every sixty
days they shall remit the whole amount of the taxes so collected to the
Treasurer of the said Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department, Inc , or
its successor or successors, upon the said Treasurer giving a corporate bond
to said County Commissioners to be approved bj the Judge of the Circuit
Court for said County in teims and a penal sum to be fixed by the Board
of County Commissioners It being the purpose of this Act that the Board
of County Commissioners of Montgomery County are herewith authorized
and empowered to levy as much as $2,500 a year against the property of
the Silver Spring precinct for the maintenance of the Silver Spung
Volunteer Fire Department, Inc, as long as the majority of the Board
of County Commissioners consider that such Volunteer Fire Department
is rendering efficient and sufficient file protection to the general Silver
Spring Community
