1912, Ch. 628.

895. The County Commissioners of Montgomery County are hereby
authorized and empowered in order to accomplish the purposes of this
Act, to construct sewers and water mains and extensions of both, in any
district or portion of Montgomery County upon petition of one-half of
the tax-paying voters resident within said district or districts with full
power to more completely define such districts and with power to construct
such water mains and sewers and extensions of both and to issue special
tax bills in payment of the same, which such special tax bills shall become
a first lien upon the property within each said district charged therewith,
and to provide for the use and maintenance of such sewers and mains,
and for this purpose, all of the powers and authority vested in the County
Commissioners of Montgomery County by an Act of the General Assem-
bly, entitled "An Act to create a water and sewer district to be known as
Silver Spring Park in Montgomery County,* are given to and vested in
said County Commissioners and may bo exercised by them for the purposes
of this Act, and with respect to any water or sewer district within Mont-
gomery County, but which shall not include any part or portion of any
municipality within said County.

896. The Sheriff of Montgomery County shall receive an annual salary
of the sum of Three Thousand Dollars, to be paid to him in monthly in-
stallments of $250.00, by the County Commissioners of Montgomery
County, and he shall be paid the further sum of Six Hundred Dollars per
annum, to be paid to him in monthly installments, for the expenses inci-
dent to the operation of his automobile in performing the duties of his
office, which sum or sums shall be in lieu of all expenses, fees or costs
now or heretofore allowed the sheriff of Montgomery County for expenses
in carrying out the duties of his office, including all expenses for trans-
ferring prisoners to and from penal institutions and places of confinement
in the State of Maryland, and no further sum or sums, whatsoever.

The County Commissioners shall furnish the Sheriff with the necessary
stationery, books and office supplies for the proper operation of his office,
and the County Commissioners are further authorized and directed to levy
at the rate of $400 a year for the term of said sheriff, the total of which
may be furnished the Sheriff when his term commences or when the
County Commissioners see fit, for the purchase of an automobile to be
used by the Sheriff or his Deputy for the general public work of that office,
which automobile is to be maintained by the Sheriff without any other
cost to the County other than the $600 annual allowance above referred to.
