which requires the action of the coroner; provided, however, that the
Justice of the Peace of said County shall continue to exercise authority in
any case which requires the action of a coroner, in case the said County
Commissioners shall fail to appoint a coroner, as provided for in Section
188 of this subtitle.*

193. The cardinal, commonly called the red bird, is hereby adopted
as the County Bird of Montgomery County.

COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND TREASURER.

194. There shall be seven county commissioners for Montgomery
County, and one commissioner shall be a resident of and elected from each
of the seven Commissioner Districts of said County as hereinafter pro-
vided and whose terms of service shall be as follows:

At the general election to be held on the Tuesday next after the first
Monday in November in the year 1930, the qualified voters of Montgom-
ery County shall elect seven County Commissioners, one of whom shall
be a resident of each of the seven Commissioner Districts hereinafter pro-
vided, who shall hold office for the term of four years from the date of
their election and until their successors shall be elected and qualified and
thereafter as their respective terms expire, the County Commissioners shall
be elected for a term of four years. If of the seven persons at any election
for County Commissioners having the highest number of votes, two or
more shall be residents of the same Commissioner District, the person in
said District having the highest number of votes shall be declared elected,
and the persons in the respective Commissioner District having the high-
est number of votes shall constitute the Board of County Commissioners.

195. The County Commissioners of Montgomery County shall each
receive for his services, the sum of $1,200.00 per annum, payable monthly
in equal installments.

196. The Board of Supervisors of Elections of Montgomery County,
prior to any primary election at which candidates for the office of County
Commissioner of Montgomery County may be selected, shall require that
every candidate for County Commissioner of Montgomery County shall,
in addition to the other statements, be required by law, embody in hia
certificate of nomination, the statement that he is an actual resident of the
Election District of Montgomery County of which he claims to be a regis-
