for Garrett County, the oath prescribed by section six, Article one of the

Constitution of Maryland.

1898, ch. 25, sec. 172.

410. The Town Council shall be composed of six members, who shall
be elected as herein provided, and their office for two years from the first
Monday in April next after their election and until their successors are
duly elected and qualified. Before entering upon their duties the mem-
bers of the council shall make oath before the Mayor or a justice of the
peace that they will diligently perform all the duties required of them
by law as members of the Town Council without fear, partiality or
prejudice.

411. No person shall be eligible as a member of the town council un-
less he shall have resided two years next preceding his election in the
Town of Oakland, and shall also be twenty-five years of age.

412. The Town Council shall meet on the first Monday in each month
and at such other times as it may deem necessary for the public business.
The members of the Town Council shall be entitled to two dollars and
fifty cents per day each for attending the sessions of the council, or attend-
ing to the other public business required of them; not, however, to exceed
fifty dollars to any member in any one year.

413. The Town Council shall appoint three judges of election and two

clerks for the purpose of holding each general or special election which
may be held under the provisions of this Act or the ordinances passed in
pursuance thereof. Ten days' notice shall be given of all elections, gen-

eral or special.

414. If any vacancy shall occur in the Town Council by reason of
death, resignation, removal from the town, removal from office or other-
wise of any member, the Town Council shall have the power within itself
to fill such vacancy.

415. The members of the Town Council shall meet at their regular
place of meeting on the first Monday in April in each year to organize;
they shall elect one of their number to be president of the Town Council,
who shall preside at their meetings and in the absence of the Mayor, or
in case of vacancy in that office, shall ex-officio be clothed with all the
powers and perform all the duties of Mayor. The Town Council shall
also at said meetings elect a town clerk, and street commissioner. In
case of a vacancy in the offices of the treasurer, tax collector or bailiff by
