such like advertising; and that the aggregate sum paid both of said news-
papers shall not exceed the sum of two hundred and fifty dollairs ($250)
for any one fiscal year; and provided further, that in event the publishers
or managers of either of said newspapers shall refuse to publish all of the
publications, as hereinbefore provided, upon the terms and for the pro
rata compensation aforesaid, then, and in said event, the publication in
one of such newspapers, the publishers or managers of which will publish
the publications aforesaid, upon the terms aforesaid, shall be sufficient
publication thereof by the said board.

242. The School Commissioners of Charles County are hereby author-
ized and empowered to establish in MeDonogh Institute, La Plata, Mary-
land, the Manual Training 'School for Charles County, as provided in
Chapter 273, Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1898.

The said County School Commissioners shall have a supervision of said
Manual Training Department and shall make same conform to the course
in manual training outlined by the Board of Education for the State of
Maryland, and that said department of McDonogh Institute be open for
free instruction in manual training for the children of Charles County.

243. The sheriff of Charles County shall furnish all State prisoners
confined in jail, suitable bed and bedding, shall have their clothes regu-
larly washed, and furnish fire when necessary to keep them comfortable.

244. The said sheriff of Charles County shall receive for the keeping
of prisoners committed to his custody, and for their victuals and support,
the sum of fifty cents per head, per day, and the County Commissioners
shall in no case allow a gTeater compensation.

245. He may be allowed for the removal of a convict to the penitenti-
ary, the sum of thirty dollars, and for every additional prisoner convicted
at the same term of court, and sentenced to the penitentiary, he may be
allowed a sum not exceeding ten dollars per head, and said compensation
shall include all expenses incident to the removal of said convict, but
nothing herein contained shall interfere with any order of the court re-
quiring him to remove a prisoner at any other time.

246. The sheriff of Charles County, before he acts as such, shall give
bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of ten thousand dollars, and
not more than ten thousand dollars, with security to be approved by two
judges of the Orphans' Court or one of the judges of the Circuit Court
