within the corporate limits of said town; enforce the ordinances enacted
by the Town Commissioners, and perform such other duties as the Town
Commissioners may prescribe; and who shall have, within said corporate
limits all the authority of a constable in making arrests and serving war-
rants and processes, whether ordered and issued by the Town Commis-
sioners or the president thereof, or by any justice of the peace.

126. The Town Commissioners and all other officers of the corporation
created by this Act or appointed by said Town Commissioners shall, be-
fore they enter upon their duties of their respective offices, make oath
before some justice of the peace that they will diligently and faithfully
to best of their skill and judgment perform the duties of their office,
and shall file a certificate thereof, signed by the officer before whom said
oath was taken, among the records of the corporation.

127. The clerk and bailiff appointed in accordance with the provisions,
of this Act, shall each give bond to the Town Commissioners in such
penalty and with such sureties as said Town Commissioners may require
and approve, conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of
their office as clerk and bailiff, respectively, and the said bonds shall,
if the Town Commissioners require, be recorded in the office of the Clerk
of the Circuit Court for Charles County.

128. The said Town Commissioners shall allow their clerk and bailiff
such compensation as may be deemed reasonable by said Commissioners.

129. The Town Commissioners shall pass and enact ordinances for the
following purposes: To open, widen, straighten, change and close high-
ways, roads, streets, lanes and alleys within the corporate limits of said
Town of Indian Head, and may make, grade, repair the same; they may
dig or ditch for drainage purposes and make subways for either drain-
age or sewerage purposes; they may remove nuisances and obstructions
from said town; they may restrain all disorders and disturbances within
said town; they may prevent and prohibit all congregations of disorderly
persons within the limits of said town; they may apprehend and fine all
tramps, vagabonds and disorderly persons who shall enter or be found
within the limits of said town; they may impose a tax on all geese, dogs,
hogs and other animals, if any, other than those hereinafter provided,
against running at large within the limits of said town, or may prohibit
such running at large under such penalties as they may choose to impose
upon the owner of such geese and other animals; and they shall enforce
and collect fines, penalties and forfeitures for the violation of ordinances
passed and enacted by them, and may commit or cause to be committed
all offenders against such ordinances to the county jail until such fines,
