1896, Ch. 210.
231. The Governor is hereby authorized and empowered to appoint
an additional justice of the peace in and for the First Election District of
Cecil County, in addition to those now required to be appointed by exist-
ing laws.

232. The County Commissioners of Cecil County are hereby authorized
and empowered to appoint, in addition to the two constables now provided
for by law, one other constable in the First Election District of said coun-
ty who shall reside and have his office in the town of Warwick in said dis-
trict.
POLICE JUSTICE.
1916, ch. 321, sec. 1.
233. The Governor of the State is hereby authorized and directed to
designate one of the justices of the peace appointed in and for the Third
Election District of Cecil County as a police justice, and who shall be a
resident of said Third Election District, and who before he shall act as
such shall give bond to the State of Maryland in the penalty of one thou-
sand dollars ($1,000.00), with surety or sureties to be approved by the
County Commissioners, conditioned that he will well and faithfully per-
form and execute the duties and obligations of justice of the Peace, and
that he will account for and pay over to the County Commissioners all
fines, penalties, forfeitures and costs imposed by him and which he shall
receive for or on account of criminal offense tried before him under the
provisions of the Public General Laws, Public Local Laws and the ordi-
nances of the Town of Elkton, which bond shall be recorded in the office
of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, and shall be liable at the suit of the
State for the use of the County Commissioners of Cecil County in case of
default in any of its provisions.

234. The said police justice shall have an office in the town of Elkton
in said distract, where he shall attend from time to time as the business
of his office may require.

235. Said police justice shall have the same jurisdiction in criminal
cases as justices of the peace now possess and which may hereafter be con-
ferred upon them by and under the laws of the State; and shall also have
civil jurisdiction as other magistrates in said county. The said police jus-
tice shall have exclusive jurisdiction of and shall be required to try and
determine all violations of the criminal laws, and all violations of the
ordinances of the town of Elkton, subject, however, to the same right of
election to be tried by a jury, notice of which must be clearly given by
