194 ARTICLE 1.

ROADS.*

537. The Governor shall, during the year 1915, designate two of the
Road Directors in Allegany County, of different political parties, whose
term of office as such Road Directors shall be the term of four years begin-
ning on the first day of January, 1914; the two remaining members of
said Board of Road Directors shall hold office for the term of two years
from the first day of January, 1914. The qualified voters of Allegany
County shall, at the general election in 1915, and every two years there-
after, elect two persons to serve as Road Directors for a period of four
years each or until their successors are elected and qualified; provided,
however, that not more than one person shall be declared elected from any
single political party. There shall be nominated for the position of Road
Director two persons of each political party entitled to be placed on the
official ballot, said nomination to be made in manner that is legal in said
County. The said Road Directors shall each give bond to the County
Commissioners of Allegany County, conditioned for the faithful perform-
ance of their duties, in the penal sum of Five Thousand ($5,000) Dollars.
If a bonding or surety company be given the same shall be paid for out
of the Road Directors account.

538. The Road Directors provided for in the preceding section are
hereby made a body corporate under the name and title of "The Road
Directors of Allegany County," with power to sue and be sued, and their
powers, duties and obligations with respect to the public roads in Allegany
County shall be co-extensive with the powers, duties and obligations here-
tofore resting upon the County Commissioners of Allegany County prior
to the passage of said Act of 1904, with respect to the public roads and
bridges in said County, except in so far as the same may be modified and
changed by the provisions of said Act of 1904 and the amendments thereto.
The Road Directors appointed or elected under the provisions of the pre-
ceding section shall, within thirty days after receiving notice of their
appointment or election, qualify by taking an oath to be administered by
the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Allegany County that they will faith-
fully execute the duties of their office, and give bond as provided in the
preceding section, and their term of office shall begin on the first day of
January next after their election, and they shall meet on the business day
next after said first day of January and select one of their number as
chairman.
